Sweden has blamed the considerable acid-rain damage to forests and lakes on airborne sulfur dioxide from factories in Western Europe. Swedish nuclear reactors are said to be very safe, with filtered venting systems designed to retain 90% of all radioactivity released in the event of a core meltdown.
